MINER'S CANARY,1986

85.5 x 51 x 11 cm
Miner's Canary is a geiger counter. It displays sequences of lights in response to hits of ionizing radiation on a detector. I was interested in detecting background radioactivity because it is a reliable source for low frequency noise. Chernobyl melted while I was making Miner's Canary, and at an opening in Berlin in 1987, MC detected three surprisingly radioactive Rolex watches. (the background count in Berlin was about the same as in Pullman, WA at the time)
